Comparative Safety Assessment of Automated Driving Strategies at Highway Merges in Mixed Traffic

چکیده
We present a simulation-based approach to assess the safety impacts of vehicles equipped with Automated Driving Systems (ADS) in mixed traffic Human-driven Vehicles (HV). Specifically, we compare two generic longitudinal strategies ADS handle cut-in: Reactive acting only when cut-in vehicle crosses target lane boundary, and Predictive at onset manoeuvre. identify their distinctive effects on under maneuvers adjacent human-driven highway merges. employ microscopic flow simulator that describes changing process high detail, accounting for interaction consequent trajectory updates. These high-resolution trajectories are post-processed estimate set relevant surrogate measures safety. By analyzing these measures, find predictive significantly outperforms reactive aspects such as temporal proximity crash, expected crash severity driving risk (combining aspects), number aborted changes by HV. The negative impact becomes prominent penetration rate >10%. major difference between approaches appears dynamics during changing. When cuts ahead ADS, peaks approximately halfway through maneuver; whereas remains marginal throughout. This work demonstrates potential assessment differentiate automation functionalities an early stage product development.

A Comparative Study of Vision-Based Lateral Control Strategies for Autonomous Highway Driving
With the increasing speeds of modern microprocessors it has become ever more common for computer vision algorithms to nd application in real-time control tasks. In this paper we present an analysis of the problem of steering an autonomous vehicle along a highway based on the images obtained from a CCD camera mounted in the vehicle. We explore the e ects of changing various important system para...
متن کاملA Theory of Traffic Flow in Automated Highway
This paper presents a theory for automated traffic flow, based on an abstraction of vehicle activities like entry, exit and cruising, derived from a vehicle’s automatic control laws. An activity is represented in the flow model by the space and time occupied by a vehicle engaged in that activity. The theory formulates Traffic Management Center (TMC) plans as the specification of the activities ...
